Riding on Indian highways is thrilling, but it comes with risks. Every year, thousands of bikers face accidents due to sudden obstacles, fatigue, or inattentive drivers. Recognising this challenge, a new startup, BYTES, is stepping in with innovative technology to make biking safer. Founded in 2024 by bike enthusiasts Aayush Kumar and Prakhar Agrawal, BYTES is on a mission to provide bikers with smart, reliable assistance that can prevent accidents before they happen. Their solution combines advanced cameras, artificial intelligence, and real-time alerts to help riders stay aware of dangers on the road.
Advanced Safety Technology for Bikes
BYTES has developed an AI-powered safety system known as ADAS, or Advanced Driver Assistance System, specifically designed for two-wheelers. While cars have enjoyed safety features like collision warning and automatic braking for years, bikes have largely been left behind. BYTES aims to fill this gap. The system uses front and rear cameras to continuously monitor the road, analysing every moving vehicle, object, or sudden change around the bike. The AI processes this information in just 33 milliseconds, making it faster than the blink of an eye. This rapid response time gives riders crucial extra seconds to react to potential hazards.
Unlike conventional safety methods, BYTES does not just detect obstacles. It understands the motion and intent of surrounding vehicles, identifies sudden lane changes, and even predicts risky situations caused by fatigue or inattentiveness. The system communicates these warnings to the rider through intuitive signals, such as lights in the side mirrors, vibration alerts, or notifications on a small display screen. The founders claim that the system can achieve up to 98% accuracy, even at highway speeds of 120–130 km/h, making it one of the most advanced solutions available for bikers today.
Transforming Road Safety in India
India’s roads are notoriously unpredictable. Potholes, uneven surfaces, sudden animals crossing, and erratic driving are common hazards. Many bikers, especially those commuting long distances or traveling at night, are at risk. BYTES targets these high-risk scenarios by offering technology that is both proactive and adaptive.
The startup is currently testing its system with several original equipment manufacturers to integrate it into new bikes. They also plan to offer retrofit solutions for existing bikes and explore subscription models for delivery fleets and frequent riders. The expected price range of the system is between ₹7,000 and ₹15,000, making it accessible to a wide range of bikers. By introducing advanced safety features at an affordable cost, BYTES is hoping to revolutionize the two-wheeler market in India and bring high-tech safety to everyday riders.
Challenges to face Ahead
Despite its promising technology, BYTES faces several challenges. The adoption of two-wheeler safety systems in India is still in its early stages. Many riders are unaware of such solutions, and convincing manufacturers to integrate them requires effort. The startup also competes with global players developing related technologies and needs substantial data from Indian roads to ensure its system works under varied conditions.
To address this, BYTES plans to collect millions of kilometres of ride data in the coming months. The team is also raising $1–2 million in funding to expand research, production, and marketing. Their goal is to make the system smarter, faster, and widely available to riders across the country.
BYTES represents a significant step forward in road safety. Even for those who don’t ride, the technology promises safer roads for everyone. With its AI-driven assistance, the startup is providing bikers with an extra layer of protection, turning ordinary rides into safer journeys and potentially saving lives on India’s highways.
