Climatetech startup Equilibrium has raised $3 million in seed funding led by Kalaari Capital, Peak XV Partners, and Avaana Capital. The new capital will help the company expand its carbon removal projects across India and create more opportunities for farmers to benefit from climate action.

Equilibrium was founded with the vision of fighting climate change through practical, nature-based solutions. Its approach combines science, technology, and on-ground partnerships to build a model that not only removes harmful carbon dioxide from the air but also supports rural livelihoods.

Nature at the Core

At the heart of Equilibrium’s work are projects that use nature to capture and store carbon. The company is involved in afforestation and reforestation, mangrove restoration, sustainable agricultural practices, and the conversion of crop residues into biochar. Biochar is particularly effective because it locks carbon into the soil for decades and improves soil fertility, making farms more resilient to climate change.

This multi-pathway approach shows how a single initiative can serve two purposes—removing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere while helping farmers strengthen their land and income. By aligning environmental goals with local needs, Equilibrium is setting itself apart in the growing climatetech space.

Expanding Projects Across India

The company plans to use the fresh funds to scale its existing portfolio of eight projects across nine states. Currently, these projects span about 120,000 hectares of land and involve more than 150,000 smallholder farmers. In the coming years, they are expected to generate over 20 million tonnes of verified carbon removal credits.

For farmers, this means more than environmental impact—it opens doors to new income sources. Instead of burning agricultural waste, they can turn it into biochar, and by participating in tree-planting or mangrove initiatives, they gain financially while contributing to climate action.

Building Trust with Technology

A critical part of Equilibrium’s model is the use of digital MRV systems—measurement, reporting, and verification tools that track the effectiveness of each project. These tools ensure transparency and credibility, giving confidence to investors and partners that the carbon removed is real and measurable. Investors have highlighted this strong mix of science, technology, and grassroots execution as the reason they believe Equilibrium can achieve large-scale impact.

Towards a Greener Tomorrow

The $3 million funding highlights the growing interest in climate-tech startups in India. As the country looks to balance rapid growth with sustainability, solutions like those offered by Equilibrium are becoming more important. By scaling projects and involving more farmers, the startup is showing that climate action can go hand in hand with community development.

Equilibrium’s journey has only just begun, but its goal is clear—to remove carbon at scale, restore ecosystems, and build a future where both the planet and people can thrive.
