In a significant development in India’s broadband sector, Excitel Broadband co-founder Vivek Raina has stepped down from his operational role after more than a decade of building the company into one of the country’s recognised fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service providers. His decision marks the end of an 11-year journey that began with a clear mission — to offer affordable, unlimited broadband services to Indian households.
According to ISN, Raina shared that the move comes at a time when the organisation is well-positioned for its next growth phase. While he is exiting day-to-day responsibilities, he will continue to remain associated with the company as a shareholder and supporter. His message reflected pride in the milestones achieved, from early expansion in Delhi NCR to scaling operations across dozens of cities and serving close to a million subscribers.
The timing of the transition signals a natural evolution within the company, as leadership responsibilities are passed on to a new generation of executives.
Leadership Transition and Growth Strategy
Following Raina’s exit, Varun Pasricha has taken charge as Chief Executive Officer. Pasricha has been associated with Excitel for several years, previously serving as Chief Operating Officer. With nearly two decades of corporate experience, he has worked with companies such as Zomato, G4S, and Max Healthcare before joining Excitel.
Under the new leadership structure, Excitel is expected to continue strengthening its fibre network and partner ecosystem. The company has largely relied on a collaboration-driven last-mile delivery model, enabling rapid deployment in tier I, tier II and tier III cities. As digital consumption increases across India — from streaming and gaming to work-from-home needs — Excitel aims to sharpen its focus on service quality, customer retention and deeper market penetration.
Industry observers believe that the smooth transition reflects strategic planning rather than sudden change, ensuring continuity in vision while introducing operational agility.
Raina’s Entrepreneurial Journey and Future Plans
Before co-founding Excitel, Raina built his telecom expertise through leadership roles at Digicable Network India, Hathway, and Reliance Communications. His experience across cable and broadband operations gave him deep insight into India’s evolving internet consumption patterns.
Reflecting on the journey, Raina acknowledged the collective effort of employees, partners and customers who contributed to the company’s rise. He hinted at taking a short break before launching new ventures, signalling that his entrepreneurial journey is far from over.
Beyond business, he is actively involved in mentoring emerging startups through initiatives like Launchpad Kashmir, which supports entrepreneurs from the Jammu & Kashmir region. His continued engagement in mentorship reflects his commitment to nurturing innovation and empowering young founders.
Impact on India’s Broadband Landscape
The Indian ISP market remains highly competitive, with growing demand for reliable and high-speed internet connectivity. Excitel carved out its identity by focusing on affordability and unlimited data plans, positioning itself as a strong alternative in the fibre broadband segment.
Raina’s exit represents a leadership milestone rather than a disruption. With him continuing as a stakeholder and Pasricha steering operations, the company appears set to pursue further network expansion and service enhancement.
As India’s digital economy accelerates, especially in smaller cities and semi-urban regions, broadband providers will play a crucial role in bridging connectivity gaps. Excitel’s next chapter under its new leadership will be closely watched by industry stakeholders, competitors and customers alike.
