Upstox has reported a solid financial performance for the financial year ended March 2025, posting a total income of ₹1,208 crore and a net profit of ₹215 crore. The results indicate a stable business despite muted growth in core operating revenue, with profitability improving mainly due to a sharp rise in non-operating income.

Operating Revenue Remains Flat in FY25

During FY25, Upstox recorded operating revenue of ₹945 crore, which remained largely unchanged compared to ₹951 crore in the previous financial year. The flat growth reflects a challenging and highly competitive brokerage environment, where customer acquisition costs and pricing pressure continue to impact topline expansion across the industry.

Brokerage income continued to dominate the company’s revenue stream, contributing ₹767 crore and accounting for over four-fifths of total operational revenue. The remaining income was driven by depository charges, account maintenance fees, and other transaction-related services, indicating a diversified yet brokerage-led business model.

Non-Operating Income Lifts Overall Earnings

While operational revenue showed limited movement, Upstox’s total income surged due to a strong contribution from non-operating sources. The company reported ₹263 crore under other income in FY25, which significantly strengthened its overall financial position and helped drive higher profitability.

This rise in non-core income played a key role in offsetting flat operating revenue and rising costs, allowing Upstox to end the year with an improved bottom line.

Profit Growth Supported by Cost Management

Upstox posted a net profit of ₹215 crore in FY25, registering a year-on-year growth of over 20 percent compared to the previous fiscal. Total expenses increased moderately to ₹991 crore, up around 6 percent from FY24, indicating relatively controlled cost growth.

Advertising and business promotion remained the biggest expense head, totalling approximately ₹467 crore. This reflects the company’s continued focus on brand visibility and customer acquisition in a crowded digital brokerage market. Employee benefit expenses rose to ₹211 crore, marking an 11 percent increase, while professional and legal costs saw a marginal decline.

Strong Liquidity and Stable Operations

Despite operational revenue pressure, Upstox maintained a healthy balance sheet in FY25. As of March 2025, the company reported current assets worth ₹4,029 crore, including cash and bank balances of ₹2,744 crore. This strong liquidity position provides the firm with ample flexibility to invest in technology, marketing, and product expansion.

Operationally, Upstox remained one of India’s leading online brokerage platforms, with around 2.08 million active clients by the end of the year. Its retail market share stood at approximately 4.6 percent, highlighting steady participation among individual investors.

Competitive Landscape and Outlook

Upstox continues to operate in a highly competitive segment alongside well-established peers such as Zerodha, Groww, and Angel One, many of which have reported faster revenue growth in FY25. However, Upstox’s ability to remain profitable and strengthen its cash position underlines the resilience of its business model.

Looking ahead, the company is expected to focus on improving operating leverage, expanding product offerings, and capitalising on India’s growing retail investor base. While revenue growth remains a key challenge, Upstox’s FY25 performance suggests it is well-positioned to navigate market volatility and pursue sustainable growth in the coming years.
