Matrimony.com Limited, India’s largest online matchmaking platform, reported strong growth in the last quarter of FY26, even though its yearly profit declined. The company remains the market leader in the online matrimony space and is also trying to grow through new apps and digital services.

Founded by Murugavel Janakiraman, Matrimony.com currently holds around 60% share in India’s online matchmaking market. The company also remains debt-free, showing stable financial health despite challenges in the industry.

Q4 Profit and Revenue Grow Strongly

Matrimony.com posted a net profit of about ₹9.7 crore in the fourth quarter of FY26. This was nearly 20% higher compared to the same quarter last year. Revenue from operations also increased by around 8% to nearly ₹117 crore.

The company’s matchmaking billings rose by more than 10% year-on-year and reached ₹125.4 crore during the quarter. According to the company, this growth was supported by higher pricing and more users choosing long-term subscription plans.

Paid subscriptions during Q4 stood at around 2.3 lakh. While this number was slightly lower than last year, it improved compared to the previous quarter. The company also saw better Average Transaction Value (ATV), which crossed ₹5,000 in some periods.

The strong quarterly results also helped the company’s stock performance. Matrimony.com shares recently gained sharply in the market and have delivered strong returns over the last six months.

FY26 Profit Drops as Industry Faces Slowdown

Despite a good fourth quarter, the company’s full-year performance remained weak. Net profit for FY26 fell by nearly 24.5% to ₹34.2 crore, compared to ₹45.3 crore in FY25. However, annual revenue stayed almost unchanged at around ₹460 crore.

The company said the online matrimony industry is seeing slower growth because matrimony-related online searches have dropped by nearly 8%. This has affected the number of new users joining such platforms. Even with this slowdown, Matrimony.com continues to lead the market, especially in South India. The company is now focusing more on increasing its presence in North India.

One positive sign for the business was its cash flow from operations, which improved to ₹75.4 crore during FY26. The company also maintained its zero-debt status.

New Apps and Businesses Become Growth Focus

Although matchmaking still contributes almost all of the company’s revenue, Matrimony.com is trying to expand into new businesses. The company launched Luv.com, a platform for Indians looking for serious and long-term relationships. It also introduced MeraLuv, specially designed for Indian Americans who want culturally connected relationships.

Another platform, ManyJobs, focuses on frontline and entry-level jobs. The app has already crossed one million downloads and added over 10,000 recruiters, mainly in Tamil Nadu. The company is also running MatchAstro, which offers astrology-based relationship and marriage consultation services.

However, the marriage services business, including Mandap and Wedding Bazaar, is still loss-making. Revenue from this segment remained low during Q4 FY26. The company said it is shifting this business towards a commission-based model to improve profitability.

Dividend and Share Buyback Announced

Matrimony.com announced a final dividend of ₹5 per share for FY26. The proposal will be approved by shareholders during the company’s annual general meeting in August 2026.

The company also completed a ₹58.5 crore share buyback programme. Around 8.93 lakh shares were bought back at ₹655 per share and cancelled. At the same time, Matrimony.com allotted new shares under its Employee Stock Option Scheme (ESOP), slightly increasing its total share capital.

Meanwhile, senior executive Vaitheeswaran S stepped down from the company due to personal reasons. He had worked with the company for more than 10 years and helped grow its Assisted Relationship Management business.

Legal and Tax Challenges Continue

Matrimony.com is also dealing with several legal and tax-related matters. One major issue involved its dispute with Google over service fees linked to in-app purchases. In March 2024, Google temporarily removed Matrimony.com apps from its platform after disagreements related to app store policies. The apps were later restored after changes in the company’s business model. The case is still pending before the Supreme Court of India.

The company has also received GST-related tax notices and penalties worth more than ₹20 crore from different states. Matrimony.com said it believes these notices are unfair and is challenging them legally.

Apart from this, the company is also involved in ongoing provident fund and income tax disputes. However, it recently received a favourable order from the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal in an older tax matter. With strong brand value, stable finances, and expansion into new digital businesses, Matrimony.com is now aiming to continue growing despite slower industry demand and rising competition in India’s online matchmaking market.
