Simple Energy has mopped up Rs 1,750 crore (about $180 million) in a Series C round led by the family office of Thyrocare founder Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani. The Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker said this is its biggest round so far.

The company added that the cheque is the third-largest among electric two-wheeler makers in India. Founder and CEO Suhas Rajkumar and Co-founder and CFO Ankit Gupta also put money in. Bengaluru-based HNI Amit Mishra and the Haran Family Office participated in the round.

Earlier in September, Kiddo’s Rs 12.5 crore round showed the same early-stage appetite, while DheyaTech’s Rs 43 crore pre-Series A came from deep tech.

The cap table now has the Velumani Family Office, Amit Mishra, Balamurugan Arumugam, the Haran Family Office, the Desai Family Office of Apar Industries promoters and the Vasavi Family Office.

Where The Fresh Capital Goes

The company will spend the money on marketing, supply chain, research and development, and hiring. Rajkumar said a new manufacturing plant is the first priority.

Velumani, who founded the diagnostics chain Thyrocare, also runs AVMLabs and AVMSmiles. Simple Energy has launched two products in the last eight months, the Simple Wave and the Simple Ultra.

Higher production comes next. The company also wants a wider distribution and service network and the next generation of products.

Simple Energy (simpleenergy.in) builds its chassis, battery, motor and software in-house. Velumani called that rare in the Indian EV space. This is his second cheque in the company.

What Simple Energy Looks Like Today

The company runs a capacity of 10,000 units a month. It is among India’s top 10 electric two-wheeler makers by monthly sales.

Its line-up has the Simple One, Simple Wave and the newly launched Simple Ultra. The company claims over 80 outlets in more than 60 cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi, Patna, Hyderabad and Chennai.

What To Watch

  • Whether the new plant and higher capacity convert into monthly sales growth.
  • Whether a larger institutional round follows this family-office cheque.

Velumani said the company has grown four times in a year. He expects it to be among the top three players in the electric two-wheeler market in about three years.
