B-Arm, a Tamil Nadu-based women’s healthcare startup, has raised Rs 4.8 crore in pre-Series A funding. The round was led by Mudhal Partners, the Zoho family office run by co-founder Kumar Vembu. Other high net worth individuals also participated.

The round takes B-Arm Medical Technologies’ total capital raised to about Rs 9 crore, through a mix of debt and equity. The company did not disclose its valuation or the stake sold.

How B-Arm will use the funds

The funds will support expansion, product innovation, brand growth and wider reach across India. The next phase will focus mainly on strengthening the company’s presence in women’s healthcare.

That is a deliberate narrowing for a company that also sells into other segments. B-Arm is placing its biggest bet where its founding story began.

A company built from a mother’s experience

B-Arm’s focus came out of co-founder SruthiSri Chandrasekaran’s own experience. A biomedical engineer and mother of three, she went through pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery and breastfeeding.

What struck her was how little of it was discussed openly. Post-delivery soreness, breastfeeding problems and intimate-health concerns were treated as things women were simply expected to manage as part of motherhood.

Her husband and B-Arm founder, Barathram, is also a biomedical engineer. Watching those years led him to ask whether their engineering background could build practical, accessible products around what Indian women actually needed.

Products for every stage

The company says it covers every stage of womanhood, from puberty to menopause. Its stated approach is to start with what would make a woman’s experience easier and more comfortable. What it can sell comes second. The company sums that up as listening to the woman first and building the solution second.

Beyond women’s healthcare, B-Arm sells into pulmonology and occupational therapy, including products for children with autism and speech difficulties. It holds more than 10 patents.

The Startup Singam effect

B-Arm drew wider attention on Startup Singam, the startup investment reality show broadcast on Vijay Television and streamed on JioHotstar. It was among the few startups to receive one of the highest funding amounts offered on the show.

It also won a Top Ten Startup award from roughly 3,000 applications in the programme’s second season. For a regional healthcare brand, the show did what a metro network usually does. It put the founders in front of investors and a mass audience at the same time.
