Unicommerce has started the new financial year with a bigger profit, even as it spends more on growth. The ecommerce SaaS company’s net profit rose 20% year-on-year to Rs 4.7 crore in Q1 FY27, up from Rs 3.9 crore in the same quarter last year. Sequentially, profit jumped 37.5% from Rs 3.4 crore.

Revenue crosses Rs 51 crore

Revenue from contracts with customers grew 14.3% to Rs 51.4 crore in the June quarter, from Rs 44.9 crore a year ago. On a quarterly basis, it dipped 0.5% from Rs 51.6 crore. Including other income of Rs 1.4 crore, total income for the quarter stood at Rs 52.8 crore.

Total expenditure rose 18.8% to Rs 48.2 crore from Rs 40.6 crore. A tax gain of Rs 11.1 lakh helped the bottom line, against a tax expense of Rs 1.3 crore in the previous year quarter.

EBITDA slips on growth investments

EBITDA, however, fell 35% year-on-year to Rs 5.5 crore. The company said near-term earnings were moderated by growth investments. Unicommerce accelerated spending on AI-led product innovation, leadership hiring, AI talent and customer-facing teams. It also increased sales and marketing capacity to push newer products.

Managing director and CEO Kapil Makhija said the quarter reflects platform strength. “We’re pleased to start FY27 with continued momentum. Our revenue grew 14.3% YoY to Rs 51.4 crore, driven by double-digit growth across both Uniware and Shipway,” he said.

Uniware and Shipway lead, acquisitions next

Both core products grew in double digits. Uniware rose 12.8% year-on-year, while Shipway grew 16.8%. The company onboarded 115 enterprise customers in the previous quarter. Its clients include Amul, Haldirams, Studds and The Sleep Company.

Unicommerce expects most of its investments to be completed in H1 FY27, with adjusted EBITDA improving progressively in H2 FY27. It also plans selective acquisitions of adjacent businesses with clear strategic fit and AI relevance, focusing on targets that are profitable or have a credible path to profitability.

In a separate development, compliance officer Monish Pal resigned. AceVector’s legal and secretarial manager Sourabh Yadav has been appointed in his place, effective August 13. Shares of Unicommerce ended the day marginally lower, down 0.36% at Rs 91.40 apiece on the BSE.

Why it matters

The quarter shows how Unicommerce is trading near-term margins for long-term capability. The company is betting that AI-led products and a bigger sales engine will pay off in the second half. If the H2 improvement plays out as planned, the current dip in EBITDA will look like a smart investment, not a warning sign.
