A recent Disney × Kanika Goyal Label (KGL) fashion campaign is bringing together fashion, visual effects and cinematic storytelling, with Indian VFX and CGI studio Eastape Films handling the VFX and CGI work. Titled “A Dream That Dreamed Itself,” the campaign combines Disney’s recognisable visual identity with KGL’s experimental approach to fashion, materials and design.
Shot in Paris and directed by Akshat Srivastava, the project features Navi Joshi and Veerinder Singh as VFX producers. The resulting film uses live-action footage and digital visual effects to create a surreal setting around the fashion collection.
A Dreamlike Concept Built Around Fashion and Visual Storytelling
“A Dream That Dreamed Itself” explores the meeting point between Disney nostalgia and KGL’s contemporary Indian design language. The collection reimagines Mickey & Friends through surreal imagery, unconventional silhouettes, layered textures and cultural references that have become part of KGL’s design vocabulary.
The collaboration comprises a reported 114-piece capsule collection featuring ready-to-wear garments and accessories. Its visual language brings familiar Disney characters together with paisleys, temple-inspired architecture, chilli motifs, upcycled denim and hand embroidery, creating an unusual connection between global pop culture and Indian-inspired fashion.
Instead of presenting the collection through a conventional fashion campaign, the film takes the concept into a more dreamlike and surreal visual space. This gives VFX an important storytelling role while ensuring that the clothing, styling and performers remain central to the frame.
Eastape Films Brings VFX and CGI Into the Live-Action Footage
For Eastape Films, the project involved more than simply placing digital effects over filmed footage. The VFX and CGI had to work naturally with the live-action material captured in Paris, taking into account camera movement, perspective, lighting and the physical environment.
That integration becomes particularly important in fashion films, where the garments and visual styling already carry a strong aesthetic identity. Effects that feel detached from the original footage can disrupt that visual language, while well-integrated CGI can become part of the scene itself.
Based in Mohali, Punjab, Eastape Films works across VFX, CGI and live-action production, creating digitally enhanced visuals for advertising, fashion and other screen-based projects.
Paris Provides the Physical Foundation for the Film
The Paris shoot established the live-action foundation of the campaign, giving the film a real-world environment from which its more surreal visual elements could develop. Post-production then allowed the creative team to extend and transform that environment while retaining the character of the original footage.
The balance between physical production and digital intervention is central to the campaign. Paris provides the setting, KGL brings its distinctive fashion language, Disney contributes its familiar characters and Eastape Films connects these elements through VFX and CGI.
This combination allows the campaign to function as more than a traditional fashion shoot, with the location and digital environment becoming part of the larger visual narrative.
A Cross-Cultural Fashion Collaboration With a Cinematic Edge
The Disney × KGL project also reflects a wider shift in fashion communication, where brands are increasingly using short films, visual effects and cinematic production techniques to give collections a stronger identity beyond conventional campaign photography.
In this collaboration, the dreamlike treatment creates space for the collection to move between memory, imagination and fashion. KGL’s experimental design approach provides the foundation, while Disney’s characters bring an instantly recognisable cultural reference to the visual narrative.
The VFX treatment helps bring these contrasting creative worlds together without taking away from the physical presence of the garments. The campaign film consequently becomes an extension of the collection itself, translating its visual concept into moving imagery.
Eastape Films’ Role in the Finished Visual Experience
With Navi Joshi and Veerinder Singh overseeing VFX production, Eastape Films handled an important creative and technical stage between the Paris shoot and the completed campaign film. The project highlights how VFX and CGI can work as storytelling tools, rather than functioning only as additional visual effects.
“A Dream That Dreamed Itself” ultimately presents fashion through a cinematic lens, combining live-action production, experimental design and digital post-production. By bringing these elements together, the campaign creates a visual world that extends beyond the physical limitations of its original location while keeping the collection at the heart of the story.
