As India rapidly digitizes, the rise of mobile-targeted cybercrime has become a pressing concern. From tier‑1 cities to small towns, malicious APK files circulated via platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram have led to widespread financial and data theft. In response, TraceX Labs, a homegrown cybersecurity company, developed TraceX Guard to protect Indian users from mobile malware and advanced cyber threats.
Many of the fake applications targeted by TraceX Guard mimicked government or utility services, including counterfeit versions of mParivahan, e-Challan, and RTO apps. Other malicious APKs included wedding-invitation packages and adult-themed apps such as “Bhabhi Calling” and “Video Call”.
These scams frequently affected retired military personnel, bankers, police officials, young users, and the general public.
TraceX Guard is developed under the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to strengthen domestic technological capability and digital security. The app is designed to detect a broad spectrum of malicious code, including RAT-based APKs, spyware, trojans, and FUD (fully undetectable) payloads, acting as a protective “digital shield” for smartphones and personal data.
In addition to proactive malware protection, TraceX Labs offers insurance coverage of ₹10 lakh for users who incur financial losses due to Android malware while using TraceX Guard, subject to the company’s terms and conditions. Claims resulting from user negligence or human error are excluded.[9] Other features include SMS and call blocking, a software and process manager, data and application backup, data traffic monitoring, and an integrated anti-theft system allowing users to locate, lock, or recover lost devices.
By leveraging AI-driven behavioural analysis, TraceX Guard continuously monitors app activity and network patterns, detecting previously unknown threats before they can compromise user data. This approach exemplifies India’s growing emphasis on self-reliance in critical technology sectors while providing a practical solution for everyday cybersecurity challenges.
The initiative has been lauded as a step toward Atmanirbhar Bharat in cybersecurity, demonstrating how homegrown solutions can protect citizens from increasingly sophisticated cybercrime while supporting the broader Make in India mission.
