Moonrider, a Bengaluru-based startup, is redefining the way farmers approach agriculture. Unlike traditional tractors that rely on diesel, Moonrider designs electric tractors powered entirely by batteries. These tractors are designed to reduce fuel costs, lower maintenance expenses, and minimize environmental pollution. The company’s vision is to make farming more cost-effective, efficient, and sustainable for Indian farmers, while also contributing to a greener environment.

Founded in 2023 by Anoop Srikantaswamy, Moonrider has quickly positioned itself as a pioneer in the electric tractor segment. The startup focuses on developing heavy-duty tractors suitable for various farm sizes, helping farmers complete their work faster and more efficiently. With rising diesel prices and increasing demand for eco-friendly solutions, electric tractors are gaining traction as a viable alternative to conventional machinery.

$6 Million Series A Funding to Accelerate Growth

Moonrider recently secured $6 million in a Series A funding round led by pi Ventures, with participation from Singularity AMC and existing backers including AdvantEdge Founders and Micelio Fund. This funding comes shortly after Moonrider’s seed round in January 2025, where the company raised $2.2 million to begin testing and small-scale production of its tractors. The Series A funding will enable Moonrider to scale operations, expand production capabilities, and accelerate its commercial launch.

The funding also reflects growing investor confidence in clean technology and smart farming solutions. Investors are betting on Moonrider’s potential to disrupt the traditional tractor market by offering a product that reduces operational costs for farmers while promoting sustainable practices.

Expanding Product Capabilities and Farm Solutions

Moonrider plans to use the new capital to expand its tractor range and improve technology. The startup is developing tractors of varying horsepower to meet the needs of small, medium, and large farms. The company is also investing in advanced battery systems, electronics, and drivetrain technology to ensure its tractors are reliable and durable under Indian farming conditions.

These enhancements are critical to making electric tractors a practical alternative for farmers who are accustomed to diesel machines. By offering competitive pricing and high performance, Moonrider aims to encourage wider adoption and gradually transform the agricultural machinery landscape in India.

Benefits for Farmers and the Environment

Electric tractors offer significant cost savings compared to traditional diesel tractors. Moonrider claims that farmers can reduce operational costs by up to 80 percent, depending on usage. In addition to cost efficiency, electric tractors produce no harmful emissions, which makes them environmentally friendly and contributes to cleaner air and reduced carbon footprint.

With around one million diesel tractors sold in India each year, the shift to electric machines represents a major opportunity for innovation in agriculture. Moonrider’s mission is to provide practical, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions that empower farmers while promoting eco-friendly practices. If successful, electric tractors could transform farming in India, making it more efficient, profitable, and environmentally responsible.
