In a major boost to India’s semiconductor ambitions, Micron Technology has officially begun commercial semiconductor production at its $2.75 billion facility in Sanand, Gujarat. The launch marks a defining moment for India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem as the country steps into advanced chip assembly and testing at a global scale.
The state-of-the-art Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) facility was inaugurated in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the strategic importance of semiconductor manufacturing in India’s economic roadmap. The Sanand plant is among the first large-scale semiconductor projects under India’s chip manufacturing push.
A Strategic Investment Strengthening India’s Semiconductor Vision
The Sanand facility has been built with an estimated investment of $2.75 billion (approximately ₹22,500 crore), making it one of the largest semiconductor investments in India to date. The facility will convert raw wafers into finished memory modules and solid-state storage products ready for global shipment. Micron has already started shipping the first batch of products manufactured at the Gujarat plant to international markets, signalling operational readiness.
