In India’s rapidly expanding creator economy, finding and booking suitable spaces for shoots, workshops, film productions or creative events remains a major challenge. Many creators still rely on scattered Google searches, Instagram pages and endless phone calls just to confirm availability. The process is often time-consuming, unclear and inefficient. Addressing this problem, a Delhi NCR-based startup called Spare Space is building what it describes as India’s own “Airbnb for creative hourly spaces.”

The startup aims to simplify how photographers, filmmakers, content creators, trainers and small event organisers discover and book spaces. By offering a structured digital marketplace, Spare Space is attempting to eliminate the frustration that creatives commonly face while securing venues.

Bringing Structure to a Fragmented Market

Traditionally, booking a studio or event space in India involves messaging multiple venue owners, negotiating pricing manually and waiting for confirmation. Real-time availability is rarely visible, and pricing details are often unclear.

Spare Space introduces a tech-enabled platform that centralises discovery, booking, payment and management in one place. Users can browse listed spaces, check hourly rates, compare amenities and view availability before making a booking. The goal is to provide transparency and instant confirmation—something creators have long been missing.

The platform caters to various needs including photoshoots, brand campaigns, auditions, workshops, rehearsals and small indoor events. By offering filters such as location, capacity, amenities and activity type, users can quickly narrow down options that match their exact requirements.

In an era where India’s creator economy is booming with influencers, YouTubers and independent artists, having access to flexible hourly spaces is becoming increasingly important. Spare Space seeks to bridge the gap between underutilised venues and growing creative demand.

Empowering Hosts and Space Owners

While creators benefit from convenience, space owners also stand to gain from better visibility and earnings. Many studio owners struggle with unused time slots and inconsistent bookings. Spare Space provides them with a digital dashboard that allows them to manage availability, set hourly pricing and track bookings efficiently.

The platform also offers upfront payment processing, reducing the risk of last-minute cancellations or payment disputes. Built-in review systems and identity verification features aim to create trust and accountability on both ends.

Founder Khayat Chakerverty, who has over five years of experience in creative production environments across India and abroad, conceptualised the idea after witnessing repeated challenges in booking spaces. His prior exposure to hosting experiences influenced the marketplace model and operational design.

Early Traction and Future Expansion Plans

Spare Space has reportedly listed over 140 live spaces across Delhi NCR and has facilitated bookings for various professional projects and brand shoots. The startup plans to strengthen its presence in Delhi NCR over the coming months before expanding to major cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai.

Looking ahead, the vision extends beyond just space rentals. The company plans to evolve into a broader creative infrastructure ecosystem. Future additions may include equipment rentals, access to freelance professionals and integrated services that support creators end-to-end.

As India continues to witness rapid growth in digital content creation and independent creative ventures, structured platforms like Spare Space could play an essential role in formalising the market for hourly creative venues.

By combining transparency, technology and flexibility, this “Airbnb for creative hourly spaces” aims to bring efficiency to India’s dynamic and fast-growing creative community, reducing friction and unlocking opportunities for both creators and space owners alike.
