AquaAirX Secures ₹12.5 Crore Seed Capital from Rainmatter to Strengthen India’s Autonomous Defence Technology Push

Bengaluru-based deep-tech startup AquaAirX has raised ₹12.5 crore in a seed funding round, marking an important milestone for India’s growing defence and autonomous systems ecosystem. The funding round was led by Rainmatter, the venture investment initiative backed by Zerodha founder Nithin Kamath. Several other strategic investors also participated in the round, signalling strong confidence in AquaAirX’s technological vision and market potential.

Founded in 2024, AquaAirX operates at the intersection of robotics, autonomy, and advanced engineering. The startup is focused on building next-generation systems capable of operating seamlessly across air and underwater environments—an area that remains largely underexplored within India’s startup ecosystem.

Building Autonomous Systems for Complex Environments

At the core of AquaAirX’s innovation is its work on amphibious and underwater robotic platforms. The company is developing autonomous drones that can transition smoothly between aerial flight and underwater movement, without manual intervention. This capability allows a single platform to perform multi-domain missions, significantly improving efficiency and reducing operational costs.

In addition to amphibious drones, AquaAirX is working on a hovering autonomous underwater vehicle designed for deep-water inspection, monitoring, and intervention tasks. These technologies are built to function in challenging and unpredictable environments, where human access is limited or risky.

Such systems have wide-ranging applications across defence, maritime surveillance, offshore infrastructure monitoring, search and rescue operations, and environmental data collection.

How the Fresh Capital Will Be Deployed

The newly raised capital will be used primarily to accelerate product development and strengthen the company’s engineering capabilities. AquaAirX plans to invest heavily in improving autonomy algorithms, sensor fusion, communication systems, and control mechanisms to ensure high reliability across air-to-water transitions.

A significant portion of the funds will also go toward expanding the core team, particularly in areas such as robotics, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, and systems engineering. The startup is also focusing on rigorous testing, validation, and performance optimisation to ensure its platforms meet mission-critical requirements.

The founders of AquaAirX believe that India has a strong opportunity to build home-grown technologies in areas traditionally dominated by international players.
