The Ranji Trophy semi-final match between Kerala and Gujarat is being held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The highlight of the innings was an outstanding century by Mohammed Azharuddeen, marking him as the second Kerala player to score a century in this year’s Ranji Trophy. Additionally, he became the first Kerala batsman to score a hundred in a Ranji Trophy semi-final, etching his name in the history books.

Azharuddeen Makes History with His Century

In the semi-final clash, Kerala’s wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammed Azharuddeen delivered a remarkable century, bringing his score to 100 runs off 175 balls. As soon as he reached his century, his teammates erupted in applause celebrating his achievement. With this innings, Azharuddeen secured a unique place in Kerala’s cricket history, becoming the first batsman from the state to accomplish this feat in a Ranji Trophy semi-final. He also formed a crucial partnership of over 148 runs for the sixth wicket alongside Salman Nizar. This century marks Azharuddeen’s second century in first-class cricket, complementing his record of 11 half-centuries.

Captain Sachin Baby and Salman Nizar Shine with Fifties

While Mohammed Azharuddeen’s century stole the spotlight, captain Sachin Baby also played a pivotal role during the innings. Despite Kerala losing three wickets for just 86 runs, Sachin held his ground and completed his half-century, contributing significantly to the team’s score. He faced 195 balls, scoring 69 runs, which included eight boundaries. Salman Nizar, supporting Azharuddeen, also reached his half-century, showcasing a strong partnership that revitalized the team after a shaky start. Earlier in the innings, Akshay Chandran and Rohan Kunnumal contributed 30 runs each, while Varun Nayanar managed a modest 10 before being dismissed. On the bowling front for Gujarat, Arjan Nagwaswala took two wickets for 88 runs in 25 overs, while Ravi Bishnoi and Priyajeet Singh Jadeja each claimed one wicket.
