New Delhi, July 2025 — In the evolving world of healthcare, one Indian scientist has fused traditional cow-based knowledge with modern science to create a revolutionary approach to healing — Cowpathy. Known as “The Cowpathy Man”, Prof. (Dr.) R.S. Chauhan has become a nationally recognized figure for his pioneering research in veterinary immunopathology and natural medicine.

Born on September 10, 1958, in a modest agricultural household, Dr. Chauhan’s rise from rural roots to becoming a leading figure in veterinary education is a reflection of perseverance and dedication. He completed his Bachelor’s (80.3%), Master’s (85.8%), and Doctorate (90%) in Veterinary Pathology from the prestigious G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.

A Life Committed to Scientific Progress

Spanning over 40 years, Dr. Chauhan’s academic and scientific journey includes significant positions such as Assistant Professor, National Fellow, Joint Director (CADRAD) at IVRI, and ultimately Director & Vice-Chancellor of ICAR-IVRI. He later took on leadership as Campus Director at IBT, Patwadangar, and served as Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Pathology, until 2024.

His scholarly footprint is vast, having authored over 120 books, including 35 technical manuals and a widely appreciated monograph. His bibliography extends to 107 book chapters, 241 peer-reviewed research papers, 65 review articles, and 328 semi-academic articles. He has actively presented 182 conference papers and led 139 training sessions, equipping professionals ranging from scientists and veterinary officers to farmers.

Cowpathy: Blending Vedic Knowledge with Modern Science

One of Dr. Chauhan’s greatest contributions has been his research into Panchgavya, the ancient practice using five cow-derived elements: milk, curd, ghee, urine, and dung. His systematic studies gave rise to Cowpathy, a science-backed natural healing system designed to manage chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, and autoimmune disorders.

Dr. Chauhan’s approach has brought traditional Indian practices into mainstream scientific discussion, making Cowpathy a compelling blend of heritage and health innovation.

Breakthroughs in Research and Discovery

Dr. Chauhan’s portfolio of innovation includes:

  • First-time isolation of camel pox virus in India.
  • Development of DIA-based rapid tests for conditions such as Enterotoxaemia, ETEC, and Pyometra.
  • Discovery of cell-mediated immunity’s role in calf rotavirus infection.
  • Groundbreaking research into the toxicological impact of pollutants, pesticides, metals, and nanoparticles on animal health.
  • Introduction of the MTT dye method for detecting immune response.

He has led 25 major research projects, funded by bodies like ICAR, DST, UPCAR, and State and Central Governments, in addition to mentoring over 50 postgraduate and Ph.D. students.

Recognition, Awards, and Advisory Roles

Dr. Chauhan’s career is decorated with more than 30 prestigious awards, including the Best Teacher Award (2004), Research Excellence Award (2020), and the Claude Bourgelat Distinguished Scientist Award (2020). He was formally acknowledged as “The Cowpathy Man” by GADVASU, Ludhiana, for his impactful research and advocacy.

He holds memberships in 15 leading scientific societies and has served in high-level roles like President, Cow Therapy Society, Vice-President, Indian Society of Veterinary Educators, and Secretary-General, Society for Immunology and Immunopathology.

His involvement has extended to elite panels including the WHO/IPCS, AIIMS Committee, Veterinary Council of India curriculum boards, and Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI). He has helped draft critical national guidelines on veterinary diagnostics, large animal welfare, and facility standards.

Founder of GOVIRTUS: A Brand for Natural Healing

Adding another milestone to his journey, Dr. Chauhan is also the Founder of GOVIRTUS, a brand dedicated to promoting scientifically backed Panchgavya-based products. GOVIRTUS reflects his mission to offer effective, natural alternatives rooted in Indian traditions, helping patients worldwide through sustainable wellness solutions based on Cowpathy.

Gauma Farm: A Living Laboratory of Cowpathy

Not one to rest on laurels, Dr. Chauhan established Gauma Farm in Inderpur near Rudrapur as a real-world model for Badri cow preservation, Panchgavya-based wellness, and natural agricultural practices. The farm serves as a demonstration unit to showcase the sustainable benefits of Cowpathy and organic farming.
