Rajasthan to Relaunch NTT Course After 15 Years

Rajasthan is set to relaunch the Nursery Teacher Training (NTT) course after a 15-year hiatus. This initiative aims to address the critical need for pre-primary educators in the state, enhancing the quality of early childhood education. The state government is establishing this course in all 34 District Education and Training Institutions (DIETs), creating ample opportunities for aspiring teachers to train and qualify for teaching roles in pre-primary settings.

Overview of the NTT Course in Rajasthan

According to media reports, the revamped NTT course will now be called the Diploma in Pre-School Education. The government has reached out to all DIETs in the state for detailed information regarding the reintroduction of the course. Each DIET will offer 50 seats for enrolled candidates, paving the way for significant teacher recruitment in pre-primary schools.

Understanding the Closure of the Previous NTT Program

The NTT course was declared illegal in 2010 following the third-grade teacher recruitment process, which resulted in the state government revoking the accreditation of all institutions offering the course. Prior to this, the NTT was a mandatory qualification for third-grade teacher appointments. To facilitate the relaunch, resources will be optimized and evaluated across all DIETs. Only those DIETs that demonstrate adequate resources will receive approval to commence the course.

Reasons for the Relaunch of the NTT Course

Media sources highlight a pressing need for pre-primary teachers in English medium Mahatma Gandhi Government Schools and PA Shri Schools across Rajasthan. There are currently 402 PA Shri Schools in the state that were granted permission in November of last year to operate pre-primary classes for a period of three years. However, a significant shortage of qualified pre-primary educators has been identified, prompting the state government to proactively address this gap through the reintroduction of the NTT course.
