UPPSC PCS Examination Updates: Increased Vacancies and What You Need to Know

The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has made significant updates regarding the UP PCS (Public Service Commission) examination. On February 28, the commission announced the results of the UP PCS prelims, shortlisting a total of 15,066 candidates for the main examination. Notably, the number of vacancies has increased dramatically, going from 220 to an impressive 947 positions. Delay in the Examination Process

Initially, a total of 576,154 candidates applied for the UP PCS prelims 2024. Candidates participated in two sessions, with 243,111 candidates in the first session and 241,359 in the second session. The UPPSC planned to conduct the examination over two days; however, candidates raised concerns regarding the normalization process, leading to protests and demands for a single-day examination. Eventually, UPPSC succumbed to the pressure, and the prelims were conducted on December 22, 2024. Unfortunately, the entire examination process faced a delay of 10 months due to new rules and the unrest among candidates.

Main Examination Pattern

Candidates proceeding to the UP PCS main examination will face a total of 1500 marks spread across 8 papers. Each paper will have a duration of three hours, and the exam will be conducted in two shifts: the first from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and the second from 2 PM to 5 PM. The first two papers, General Hindi and Essay, will carry 150 marks each, while the remaining six papers for General Studies will each carry 200 marks. Additionally, there will be a 100-mark interview round, which candidates must pass to be considered successful.
