Zerodha Launches WhatsApp-Based Kite Backup, The Emergency Trading Solution

Follow Us

Zerodha, India’s largest stockbroker, has launched an innovative solution called Kite Backup. This WhatsApp-based emergency trading mode gives Indian investors a safe way to exit positions and cancel open orders during technical failures.

Why Did Zerodha Launch Kite Backup?

Trading platforms link together many systems exchanges, cloud data centres, and servers. Sometimes a single fault can shut everything down. Even though Zerodha uses advanced backups and safeguards, founder Nithin Kamath says, “We’re still paranoid because even the best systems can fail.” Kite Backup is a new way out, made just for those rare emergencies.

How Does Kite Backup Work?

Kite Backup is simple and fast. If Zerodha’s main web or mobile platform goes down, you can switch to WhatsApp. Here’s the step-by-step guide:

Step-by-Step Kite Backup Guide

  1. Save this contact: +91 99644 52020.
  2. Send WhatsApp message: Type “Hi” to this number.
  3. Enter your details: Provide Zerodha User ID and PAN.
  4. Authenticate: Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile.

Once logged in, you will see four options:

  • Open Positions: View and exit current trades.
  • Open Orders: Cancel any pending orders.
  • Holdings: Check your stock portfolio.
  • Margins: View available funds and requirements.
  • You do not need to pay extra for using Kite Backup.

Key Features and Limitations

Kite Backup is available any time, whether the main trading app works or not. It runs on a separate system from Kite, Amazon AWS, or Cloudflare, using Microsoft Azure for extra reliability. But remember, this tool is only for emergencies. You cannot place new trades or use advanced features. The interface is basic, focused only on protecting your investments during an outage.

If the backup servers also shut down, the WhatsApp feature will not work, since it only replaces the Kite front-end. Still, it adds another strong safety layer for Indian investors.

Indian-Friendly, Secure, and Hassle-Free

Kite Backup by Zerodha is made for ease and convenience. The process is simple. The service is free. Indian traders can now worry less about sudden outages and focus more on smart trading.

This move highlights Zerodha’s commitment to its users. With WhatsApp support, trading is safer, and you’re always in control—even when things go wrong.
