Chennai-based startup Vikra Ocean Tech has raised $1 million (around ₹9.4 crore) in a seed funding round led by Finvolve and India Accelerator. The company plans to use this funding to increase its production capacity and grow its sales, especially in the defence sector and public sector units (PSUs).
Founded in 2018, Vikra Ocean Tech is building robotic solutions for underwater and marine use. The startup aims to reduce India’s dependence on expensive imported technology by offering affordable and locally built alternatives.

Building Made-in-India Ocean Robotics
The company was started by Rajeuv Govindan and Rajagurunathan Krishnasamy. It has developed a system where different robots can work together through a single control platform. These robots are used for defence, underwater surveys, disaster response, and inspection work.
Vikra Ocean Tech has already gained attention in the defence sector. It has received two iDEX grants from the Indian Army and the Indian Coast Guard. As of March 2025, the company reported revenue of ₹78.5 lakh, showing early growth in its business.
Strong Product Line Across Use Cases
The startup offers several robotic products for different needs. Its ROVITO and AQUAROX are small underwater robots that can capture live video and collect data. WAVEBOT and HYDRONOX are surface vehicles used for monitoring water bodies and coastal areas. KOORMA is an amphibious robot that can work both on land and underwater, useful for defence and exploration tasks.
The company also makes LANDROX, a ground robot for inspection and surveillance. Along with this, its U-CAM and U-LIGHTS systems help improve visibility in deep water. It also offers communication systems that allow divers to stay connected with teams above water.
Plans to Grow and Expand
With the new funding, Vikra Ocean Tech plans to grow its manufacturing and build steady income through service contracts and maintenance services. It also wants to strengthen its position in defence and government projects.
In India’s marine tech space, it competes with startups like Planys Technologies, EyeROV, Sagar Defence Engineering, and Coratia Technologies. However, its focus on affordable and flexible solutions may help it stand out in the market.
