Urban Company’s Shocking Q4 Losses After InstaHelp Push

Urban Company saw strong business growth in Q4 FY26, but the company also reported heavy losses because of its rapid expansion of InstaHelp, its quick home-service platform. The company crossed 10 million orders in a single quarter for the first time, showing rising demand for its services.

Revenue and Orders See Strong Growth

Urban Company’s revenue from operations grew 43% year-on-year to ₹426 crore in Q4 FY26. Its Net Transaction Value (NTV), which measures the total value of services booked on the platform, increased 42% to ₹1,148 crore. For the full FY26 year, revenue reached ₹1,556 crore while NTV touched ₹4,290 crore.

However, the company’s losses increased sharply during the quarter. Urban Company reported a net loss of ₹161 crore in Q4 FY26, compared to just ₹2.8 crore loss in the same quarter last year. For the full year, the company moved from profit to a net loss of ₹235 crore. The company said the quarterly loss also included a one-time deferred tax adjustment of ₹61 crore. It also received a GST demand notice worth ₹56.4 crore during the period.

InstaHelp Expansion Becomes Costly

Urban Company’s biggest expense came from InstaHelp, its 10–15 minute home-service platform for cleaning, cooking, dishwashing and laundry work. The service was first launched as InstaMaid but was later renamed after criticism over the original name.

InstaHelp completed 2.7 million orders during Q4 FY26 and generated ₹40 crore in NTV. But the rapid expansion is costing the company heavily. InstaHelp posted an adjusted EBITDA loss of ₹119 crore in the quarter, with losses of around ₹447 on every order. The company is currently offering discounts to customers and guaranteed earnings to workers to quickly grow the business and increase its market share.

Competition and Worker Concerns Continue

Urban Company is facing tough competition from startups like Snabbit and Pronto in the quick home-services market. Industry experts believe companies in this sector are spending heavily to attract both customers and workers.

At the same time, labour groups and activists have raised concerns about worker safety, low pricing and lack of job security in the fast-service model. Urban Company, however, says many workers on its platform are earning competitive monthly incomes. Even though InstaHelp is currently making losses, Urban Company’s main services business and international operations continue to perform well and support the company’s long-term expansion plans.
