Reliance Industries is set to create one of the largest solar power projects ever seen in the world. Spread across 5,50,000 acres in Kutch, Gujarat, this solar park is three times bigger than Singapore. This ambitious project aims to meet nearly 10% of India’s electricity needs within the next 10 years.

Massive Solar Power Installation

Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced that at peak, the site will install 55 megawatts (MW) of solar modules and 150 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage every single day. This makes it one of the fastest solar power installation projects in the world. The solar power generated will connect seamlessly with Reliance’s existing infrastructure at Jamnagar and Kandla ports, supporting large-scale solar energy and green hydrogen production.

Vision for Green Hydrogen and Future Fuels

Reliance plans to become a global leader in green hydrogen production. The company will produce green ammonia, green methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel using this green hydrogen. By 2032, Reliance aims to scale green hydrogen production capacity to 3 million tonnes per year. This move will position India as a major global hub for clean and affordable green hydrogen and its sustainable derivatives.

Cutting-Edge Solar Technology

The company’s solar photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing unit in Jamnagar has recently started operating. Reliance has produced its first 200 MW of heterojunction technology (HJT) solar modules. These modules are more efficient, offering 10% higher energy yield, better temperature performance by 20%, and 25% less degradation than traditional modules. The manufacturing capacity is set to grow from 10 GW to 20 GW per year, making it the largest solar manufacturing hub globally.

Battery and Electrolyser Giga Factories

Reliance is also building massive battery and electrolyser factories at Jamnagar. The battery giga factory will start operations in 2026 with a capacity of 40 GWh, which can be scaled up to 100 GWh. The electrolyser factory, crucial for producing green hydrogen, will begin by the end of 2026 with a 3 GW yearly capacity. These factories will help Reliance produce green hydrogen at a competitive cost.

A Step Toward India’s Clean Energy Future

This integrated approach of combining solar power, battery storage, and green hydrogen technologies makes the project unique. It will provide scale, cost efficiency, and supply resilience. Reliance’s vision aligns with India’s growing focus on clean and sustainable energy, reducing the country’s dependence on fossil fuels, and supporting global climate goals.

With this project, Reliance aims to create a clean energy revolution in India and open new avenues for export in green fuels and chemicals. It is a key step toward building a sustainable future while giving a boost to India’s energy independence.
