Tech industry growth and AI impact

As per NASSCOM’s Strategic Review 2026, India’s tech industry is expected to reach $315 billion in FY26, growing at 6.1%. The focus is now shifting from just expanding size to creating more value through innovation.

The industry is also adding more jobs. Total tech employment is expected to reach around 6 million, with about 135,000 new jobs added this year. At the same time, companies are investing heavily in upskilling. Over 2 million professionals have already been trained in AI, including many in advanced skills. AI is becoming a major part of business. It is expected to generate $10–12 billion in revenue. Companies are also changing how they charge clients, moving from fixed billing to outcome-based models because of AI efficiency.

Focus on future skills and opportunities

Under the new leadership, NASSCOM plans to focus on improving revenue growth and increasing productivity. A big idea is to build “Human + AI” teams, where people and technology work together. The organisation also wants better policies to include AI education in schools and colleges. It is encouraging both companies and the government to spend more on technology.

NASSCOM, along with NITI Aayog and Boston Consulting Group, has said that while AI may replace some jobs in the short term, it can create up to 4 million new jobs by 2031. With programmes like FutureSkills PRIME, NASSCOM is helping people learn new skills. As India builds a strong AI workforce, this leadership change comes at an important time for the country’s tech future.
