Flipkart Minutes, the quick commerce arm of Walmart-owned Flipkart, has rapidly expanded to over 200 dark stores across 14 Indian cities since its August 2024 Bengaluru pilot launch. The service now delivers groceries, electronics, and daily essentials in under 15 minutes, intensifying competition in India’s booming quick commerce market.

Speed Meets Demand: 10–15 Minute Deliveries

Flipkart Minutes promises lightning-fast deliveries of smartphones, household essentials, personal care products, and groceries. Vice President Kanchan Mishra highlighted the shift in consumer expectations: “Customers now prioritize speed alongside product variety and affordability”. The platform’s dark stores—small warehouses in high-demand areas—enable rapid order fulfillment, positioning Flipkart to challenge rivals like Blinkit and Zepto.

Homemakers Drive Quick Commerce Growth

Initially popular with Gen Z users, quick commerce is now embraced by homemakers—India’s largest consumer segment. Mishra noted this transition has attracted diverse brands seeking to tap into new audiences through instant deliveries. From pulses to premium electronics, Flipkart Minutes aims to cater to this expanding user base while partnering with brands for hyperlocal reach.

Aggressive Expansion Ahead of Festive Sales

Flipkart plans to nearly triple its dark store count to 500–550 by September 2025, aligning with its flagship Big Billion Days sale. While currently operating in 14 cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, the company eyes deeper penetration in existing markets and entry into smaller towns. Competitors remain ahead—Zepto runs 900+ dark stores, while Swiggy Instamart and Blinkit operate 705 and 1,007 outlets, respectively.

Collaborative Model to Fuel Growth

Unlike rivals focusing on urban centers, Flipkart leverages its established customer base and supplier network to differentiate itself. Mishra emphasized partnerships with brands to optimize inventory and delivery efficiency, ensuring quick commerce services reach untapped regions. The strategy includes adding high-value categories like electronics, where Flipkart holds an edge over grocery-focused competitors.

The Road Ahead

With India’s quick commerce market projected to grow exponentially, Flipkart Minutes’ rapid scaling reflects the sector’s potential. By blending speed, strategic alliances, and category diversification, the platform aims to become a one-stop solution for India’s fast-evolving delivery demands.
