The Historic Key Handover
In a remarkable moment in history, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi handed over the keys to the first Maruti 800 on December 14, 1983, to Harpal Singh in New Delhi. This was the first instance of a Prime Minister personally delivering keys to a car buyer, marking a significant milestone in Indian automotive history. The second unit was purchased a year later by Dr. Ramdev Gupta from Ranchi, making headlines once again as he became the second owner of this iconic vehicle in Bihar.
Transition to Maruti Alto 800
After the discontinuation of the Maruti 800 on January 8, 2014, Maruti Suzuki faced the challenge of filling the void in the hatchback segment. This led to the launch of the Maruti Alto 800, which combined features from both the Maruti 800 and the Maruti Alto. Available in both automatic and manual transmissions, the Alto 800 is designed to cater to a diverse range of customers. Current prices start from ₹3.25 lakhs for the base variant and go up to ₹5.12 lakhs for the top variant. Offered in both petrol and CNG trims, the Alto 800 is touted as one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its segment, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious buyers.
