Hyundai has recently unveiled its cutting-edge hydrogen electric car, the Hyundai Nexo, which boasts an impressive range of 700 kilometers. This second-generation model was introduced at the Seoul Mobility Show 2025 in South Korea. With a modern design, enhanced features, and a more advanced powertrain, the new Nexo represents a significant advancement in the realm of fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
The Innovative Powertrain of Hyundai Nexo
The Hyundai Nexo operates by converting hydrogen gas into electrical energy, powering an electric motor and producing only water vapor as emissions. Unlike traditional electric vehicles, which depend solely on batteries, the Nexo incorporates a fuel cell stack that generates energy from hydrogen, complemented by a lithium-ion battery that extends its driving range. This innovative design is based on Hyundai’s Inishium concept unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in October 2024, featuring a distinctive boxy profile that enhances both aesthetics and functionality.
Exceptional Range and Performance
The second generation Nexo features an advanced powertrain characterized by a 110 kW fuel cell stack and a 2.64 kWh lithium-ion battery. With a powerful 150 kW electric motor, Hyundai claims that the Nexo can drive up to 700 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle’s top speed can reach 179 kilometers per hour, and it accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 7.8 seconds, making it one of the most performance-oriented hydrogen electric SUVs on the market.

Luxurious Features of the Nexo
The Hyundai Nexo embodies luxury with a high-tech cabin featuring state-of-the-art technology. It includes a twin-deck center console seamlessly integrated with the dashboard, reminiscent of the Creta Electric’s steering column-mounted gear shift. Like all Hyundai models, the Nexo comes equipped with advanced amenities, including a 12.3-inch dual display infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a high-fidelity 14-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, ambient lighting, NFC-enabled keyless entry, and sophisticated digital IRVM and ORVM cameras, ensuring both comfort and safety for its occupants.
Comprehensive Safety Features
In terms of safety, the Nexo is equipped with nine airbags and Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). These features include Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot Viewer Monitor, Emergency Stop, Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control, Rear View Monitor, Surround View Monitor, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, making it one of the safest SUVs in its segment.
