Kolkata, September 22, 2025 — On the sacred occasion of Mahalaya 2025, the city witnessed a grand celebration of literature hosted by Oikkyotan Publication. The event was graced by acclaimed poet and researcher Sudip Chandra Halder, who inspired the gathering with his thoughts on tradition, creativity, and the role of young writers in shaping the future of Bengali literature.
The cultural evening brought together nearly 200 poets, authors, researchers, and literature lovers, featuring poetry recitations, felicitation ceremonies, and the launch of 28 new Bengali books — a milestone moment for contemporary literature in Kolkata.
Poet Sudip Chandra Halder Honoured with Sharad Samman
Halder attended as the Guest of Honour, alongside Professor Tabarak Ali and Poet Sultana Parveen. He was welcomed with a traditional uttoriyo and presented with the Sharad Samman for his remarkable contributions to Bengali literature.
In his keynote address, Halder reflected on the spiritual and cultural significance of Mahalaya:
“Durga Puja in Kolkata begins with the legendary Chandi recitation of Birendra Kishore Bhadra. The sight of blooming kash flowers marks the arrival of Maa Durga. Hosting a literary event on this sacred day carries deep meaning.”
He further called upon the younger generation of writers to safeguard Bengal’s rich literary tradition:
“Bengali literature is a jewel of world literature. It is the duty of young writers to preserve, nurture, and carry this legacy forward.”
Halder also cautioned about the overuse of technology, reminding participants:
“Technology is useful, but it must never dilute the essence of literature.”
Guests Highlight Youth’s Role in Literature
Professor Tabarak Ali praised the active participation of young writers:
“In this digital age, seeing the youth gather for literature is inspiring. I feel privileged to be a part of this celebration.”
Poet Sultana Parveen echoed the sentiment, expressing her admiration for the new wave of literary talent:
