Bengaluru and San Francisco-based mixed reality (MR) startup Flam has successfully raised $14 million (approximately INR 119 crore) in a Series A funding round led by RTP Global, with participation from Dovetail and several existing investors. This fresh capital injection will fuel Flam’s ambitious plans to scale operations primarily in the US market, while continuing to strengthen its foothold in India and expanding into other international regions like Europe and the Middle East.

Flam’s Vision: Transforming Every Touchpoint into an Immersive Experience

Founded in 2021 by Shourya Agarwal, Malhar Patil, and Amit Gaiki, Flam is on a mission to redefine how brands engage with consumers by converting conventional advertisements and brand touchpoints into interactive, app-less mixed reality experiences. Their proprietary AI-driven platform enables brands to deliver high-fidelity digital, 3D, and MR content in under 300 milliseconds, accessible via simple links on social media, websites, or offline QR codes-eliminating the need for app downloads or browser redirects.

Shourya Agarwal, Co-founder and CEO of Flam, emphasized, “Our goal is to transform every touchpoint-whether digital, broadcast television, mass media, retail, or stadium fan interactions-into captivating digital experiences. We are focused on delivering generative AI tools that brands and organizations have been longing for, making marketing interactive, measurable, and engaging.”

Strong Market Presence and Impressive Client Portfolio

Flam currently commands a significant 45% market share in the US mixed reality advertising space and has already begun monetizing its offerings in India for nearly a year. The startup boasts an impressive client roster of over 100 large tech and ecommerce brands, including Google, Samsung, LG, Flipkart, Britannia, Netflix, AJIO, Wargaming, and WPP. Flam’s MR campaigns have reportedly delivered engagement rates up to 49 times higher and conversion rates four times better than traditional advertising formats.

Strategic Use of Funds: Scaling, R&D, and Product Innovation

The $14 million funding will be strategically allocated towards:

  • Scaling operations in the US, Europe, and Middle East markets to deepen Flam’s global footprint.

  • Doubling down on the Indian market where the company already has a strong presence.

  • Investing heavily in research and development, particularly in generative AI-based tools for 3D asset generation, analytics, and an integrated advertising suite tailored for sectors like retail, sports, broadcasting, and live events.

  • Enhancing product scalability and engineering capabilities to maintain technological leadership.

The Growing Mixed Reality Opportunity in India and Beyond

The timing of Flam’s growth is aligned with the booming interest in augmented reality (AR), extended reality (XR), and mixed reality technologies among D2C brands and ecommerce players aiming to engage customers more effectively. According to industry reports, the Indian VR and AR market is projected to reach $624.11 billion, growing at a CAGR of 19.43%, signaling vast opportunities for startups like Flam to innovate and lead.

Industry Endorsements and Future Outlook

Nishit Garg, Partner at RTP Global, highlighted the significance of Flam’s technology and vision, stating, “The moment for MR is upon us-Flam is uniquely equipped to spearhead this trend. We are excited by their pace of execution and clarity of vision, and we look forward to supporting them in this next phase of growth.”

With a team of approximately 150 employees across India and the US, Flam is poised to become a global leader in mixed reality marketing infrastructure, offering brands a powerful way to create immersive, interactive experiences that resonate with today’s digitally savvy consumers.

In summary, Flam’s recent $14 million Series A funding round marks a pivotal step in scaling its AI-powered mixed reality platform globally. By focusing on innovation, market expansion, and deepening client engagement, Flam is set to transform how brands connect with audiences in India, the US, and beyond-ushering in a new era of interactive advertising and digital experiences.
