After the recent defeat in the Australia tour, Gautam Gambhir, head coach of Team India, emphasized the importance of playing first-class matches in domestic cricket for the players. Following this, numerous players, including Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, have confirmed their availability for the upcoming Ranji Trophy matches starting on January 23. Training for these matches is already underway, with Yashasvi joining the camp on January 15 to prepare with his Mumbai team. Notably absent during this time was Indian team captain Rohit Sharma, who had practiced with the team just a day before.
Yashasvi’s Practice with Fellow Players
The Mumbai team is set to face Jammu and Kashmir in their next encounter, featuring several star players. According to a PTI report, Yashasvi, who performed exceptionally well in Australia, has commenced his net sessions at the Bandra Kurla Complex ground. On his first day, he practiced alongside team captain Ajinkya Rahane and all-rounder Shivam Dube.
In the recent Australia series, Yashasvi scored 391 runs in five Test matches, including one century and two half-centuries. Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane, who has previously captained the Indian team, showcased impressive form, playing several remarkable shots, while Shivam Dube exhibited an aggressive batting style during the net sessions.
Where is Rohit Sharma?
Rohit Sharma has been struggling in Test cricket recently, with only 164 runs at an average of 10.93 over the last eight matches. Attempting to regain his form, Rohit has chosen to participate in the upcoming Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, prompting him to join the Mumbai team’s practice sessions. Although he was present for batting practice on January 14, he was notably missing from the subsequent day’s training.

Rohit did not participate in the practice session with the Mumbai team. Meanwhile, a video of him jogging in a park has gone viral. While Rohit has indicated his availability for the upcoming Ranji match, it remains uncertain if he will actually play. Reports suggest that the Mumbai team’s squad will be announced on January 20, at which time Rohit will be asked again about his participation.
